I've been starting to lurk around these pages again and I just can't shake the whole time-warp feeling that comes with them. The difference between the eyes of a twenty-five-year-old, sauced-to-the-eyeballs goof and those of a thirty-year-old, two-glasses-of-wine-and-ready-for-bed dad are something that I wouldn't ever think about except for when I'm here.
Let's jump back into it, shall we?
Tonight finds my beloved and my stepson almost four hundred miles away, visiting my sister-in-law. That leaves me and my fourteen-month-old (oh, how I swore I would never be able to measure a child's age in months...) to practice our walking (just started yesterday) and watch "Wheel of Fortune." The kid is a nut for it. Whatever else is flowing through that teeny little brain of his comes to a complete stop when that wheel spins. He actually gets pissed if you get in the way of the screen. Not Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents... Just the Wheel.
Right now he's just standing up. To him, this is the greatest thing since bottled milk, and he looks at you with a face that says "Top this little trick," like no one else has ever stood still for half a minute.
But enough prattling on about my boy. Proud papa? Yes. Just as proud of my other one. Fourth grade this year and going strong. But none of that makes for riveting reading unless you're me.
Five years ago I would have sworn that this place would have been the farthest thing from what I could possibly be. And I'm happier than hell to admit that I was dead wrong.
I still need a place to rant and rave about whatever ridiculous shit that passes in and out of my days. I'm thinking that is going to be the place. I checked in recently and found today that no one was watching anymore. If that should change, so be it. I'm always up for company. And if not, I guess I'll just keep up my best "Doogie Howser, Original Blogger" impression.
